Read the story from Peter Malone's book. Learn a little about Prokofiev from the short bio. Then play the CD by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and use the Music-Go-Rounds to point out the music of each character and the instrument that plays it. Do that several times and then ask kids to choose the correct character and instrument MGR on the whiteboard when they hear a theme.
