  • Mad Hot Ballroom DVD (4601)
Witness the transformation of New York City 5th graders as they change from awkward, shy, and reluctant participants in a public school ballroom dance program to become highly motivated "ladies and gentlemen" in preparing for the citywide championship trophy.
This documentary captures the refreshing innocence of the kids (many from high poverty districts) as they share personal feelings and insights on life in-between their struggles with the foxtrot, tango, merengue, rumba and swing.
One of those rare movies that will make you laugh and cry at the same time, and wil inspire you to wish there were more such programs in our schools. 105 min.
  • Take the Lead DVD (4640)
Played by Antonio Banderas, Pierre Dulaine (founder of the program seen in Mad Hot Ballroom) volunteers to teach ballroom dancing to New York inner city high school kids. Initially forced to participate as a form of detention, the kids reject Mr. Dulaine's efforts. But his unwavering determination finally inspire them to embrace dance, infusing it with their own unique hip-hop style. While preparing for the dance competition, they also learn valuable lessons about mutual respect, commitment, and teamwork. PG-13. 108 min.
