In this extraordinary film, children of different cultures share one thing: a love of music which is their source of joy and motivation.

Rimpa Siva: Princess of Tablas focuses on a talented young child’s devotion to a traditional instrument from India, the history and making of that instrument, how unwritten musical traditions are passed on, and a final public presentation and approval of the young musician before elders and society. Witness their daily family and community life in impoverished circumstances, and revel at how music transforms their young lives.

Rimpa Siva, Princess of Tablas
Rimpa lives in Calcutta, India, and, at 11 yrs old, loves to play with friends both real and imagined. She also speaks well without words through her tabla. One of the few girls to play this instrument with the most difficult rhythms in the world, she studies with her Guru father. We begin to glimpse the relationaship between music and religion, and collective, cultural memory as we learn about Indian culture and music.
