Eight Jack & Grandfather Tales, stories and tales by Linda High and illustrated by Carol Kindt.

Bring story-telling, art, music, and drama to your classroom with these versatile Appalachian tales with integrated fiddle tunes and folk songs. Students create puppets or masks to dramatize the stories as you read them aloud, singing the short songs and improvising story actions or sound effects on unpitched instruments.

Five stories highlight character names to play or move to the rhythm. Two add improvisaton on certain descriptive phrases. One has a spoken phrase immediately added to the song.

8 stories in 8 units, with musical, dramatic and art options for all.  Grades K-2.
