A common instrument of northeast Ghana, the large water drum is made of two calabash (gourd) hemispheres. Fill the larger one with water, with the smaller one floating face-down in it. Played with rubber-tipped sticks, it makes a vibrant percussive sound; by hand, it produces a beautiful round, resonant tone. Experiment with the variety of tonal effects of using more or less water, and of playing on the rim of the large bowl or with the wooden ends of the mallets. 16" diameter. 2 beaters and a gourd base stand are included.
